Easy on the eyes: Diablo Course at Ridgemark Golf & Country Club near San Jose
HOLLISTER, Calif. -- Diablo Course at Ridgemark Golf & Country Club is the outermost and most scenic of the club's two golf courses.
The once-private club is now open to the public, located between San Jose and Monterey. With plenty of elevated tees and the Gabilan and Diablo Mountains (hence the names of the courses) as a backdrop, the 6,582-yard Diablo features one scenic hole after another with several interesting twists and turns.
The signature hole of this Richard Bigler design is the par-5 seventh, where golfers hit off a hillside into a landing area and over a barranca. At 595 yards, it's also one of Diablo's most challenging and longest.
Meanwhile, the shortest par 5 on the course is also scenic but reachable in two by most good players. The par-5 11th plays 464 yards but has plenty of trouble to keep you honest.
