Rancho Bernardo Inn golf course in San Diego
Opened in 1962, Rancho Bernardo Inn golf course is a classic San Diego golf course. It was designed by William F. Bell, the son of William P. Bell, and is part of a Four Diamond resort and spa. Golfers will want to stop by one of the area's better restaurants, Veranda Grill & Sports Bar, upon completion of the round.
The course plays 6,632 yards from the championship tees and is a former PGA Tour and LPGA Tour host. It sits mostly in a lower-lying valley. A stream runs through much of the golf course, coming into play on many holes. There are a collection of superb par 3s, including two shortish shots on the back nine that are played to small, well-defended greens. The 18-hole layout is capped with a long par-5 finishing hole that plays around a springing fountain and high up to an elevated green.
Rancho Bernardo Inn is located just north of San Diego off the I-15 interstate. The golf club features a driving range and several practice greens. Walking is allowed, and the course can be played with hickory stick golf clubs. Inquire with the pro shop for details.
