Short but sweet: The Links at Terranea is a nine-hole par-3 golf course that overlooks the ocean near L.A.
RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- Affordable ocean views. Fast rounds with nine chances at an ace. County club conditions. The Links at Terranea is one of the most unique golf facilities on the west coast.
The gorgeous 1,239-yard nine-holer, which celebrates its fifth anniversary in June 2014, ranks among the premier par-3 golf courses in the country. Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design creatively maximized a small parcel of land between the road and the ocean cliffs of the Terrenea Resort to fit in nine holes ranging from 104 yards to 173 yards, a three-bay golf academy, a temporary "Golf House" and cool short-game practice area.
His blown-out bunkers would look right at home at Bandon Dunes or Whistling Straits. It's a fun shot-making test to play. The breezes off the water pick up in the afternoon, making every club selection a chore.
The indoor bays at the academy are equipped with the Foresight Sports GC2 Golf Simulator/Launch Monitor and V1 Golf Video software, two great tools for video lessons. Multiple PGA Professionals make the academy the perfect place to dial in the irons that floundered during the round.
And if that doesn't work, just enjoy the views across the Catalina Channel to Catalina Island. They're spectacular.
