GILROY, Calif. -- It's a little out of the way, but if you're willing to make you way a half-hour south of San Jose toward the "Garlic Capital of the World," the Johnny Miller-designed Eagle Ridge Golf Club is certainly worth the trip.
Priced a little lower than comparable golf courses in Monterey or San Jose, Eagle Ridge is set in the foothills of the Monterey wine country. The natural setting provides plenty of movement in the land, natural water features and lots of views. There are also six sets of tees -- ranging from more than 7,000 yards to just more than 5,100.
The course also has a great deal of variety, from short par 4s like the 330-yard 15th to the 600-yard par-5 16th. No two holes at Eagle Ridge Golf Club look alike; some provide generous driving areas, while a few of the holes are little tighter.
