Favorite golf course
Love everything about this course, if I lived in the area this would be my home course. Beautiful eucalyptus trees around the fairways and conditions are always good. Highly recommend playing this one!
Monarch Dunes
Walked the Golds (6337/70.9/130) with The SLO Co GG in 4H, 45M mid morning. $50 to walk, includes driving range token. Sunny, breezy and around 75.
Tees had good coverage and were mostly lush. If I wanted to nitpick some could use leveling and several needed some divot attention.
Fairways were semi lush with a good cushion, but too many unfixed divots.
Rough was hit and miss. Close to the fairway was not very high, but there is plenty of thick/deep native rough to avoid here.
Sand traps have thick, brown clay like dirt but play better than average.
Large poa greens putted medium speed & were firm. Large greens, you need to be able to lag putt well here.
Hilly course, excellent layout, good variety of holes. Difficult course to walk because numerous tees are a ways from the last green as you go between residential areas. Lots of tall trees with enough water and sand to keep you on your toes. Good customer service from all encountered. Adequate driving range and practice area. No drink cart today. Course overall in very nice condition. Recommended.
Monarch Dunes
Walked the Golds (6337/70.9/130) in 4H, 30M mid morning with the SLO Co. GC. $50 to walk is steep on a weekday morning. Partly cloudy, mostly calm and around 75 made for a nice day on the course.
Tees were mostly good. Decent coverage, mostly level and just the par 3's needed divot attention.
Fairways were semi lush with a good cushion, but far too many unfixed divots.
Rough was hit and miss. Close to the fairway was mowed down and mostly lush. Stray from the fairway more than about 10 yards and there are alot of hardpan areas.
Sand traps look like brown dirt/mud but usually play better than average.
Large poa greens putted medium fast speed and were smooth/firm. Large greens, you need to be able to lag putt well here.
Hilly course, excellent layout, good variety of holes. Lots of tall trees with enough water and sand to keep you on your toes. Good customer service from all encountered. Driving range on mats. No drink cart today, but the restaurant is open again and was doing a brisk business after the round. Recommended.

Nice day
Play this course about every 6 weeks when visiting the area. If you are a walker, it’s a strenuous walk. Walkers be warned huge walk from the range to the first tee. Also long walk from #9 green to #10 tee box. Good practice facility. The tee boxes were in very good condition, as well as the fairways. More people need to fill their divots in the fairways now to the greens. They look beautiful, are huge and undulating, but a bit on the slower side which I get because other wise u are looking at lots of 4 putts. We finished in 4 hrs two walkers and two in a cart. Weather was mild and over cast also give their challenge course a try.
Awesome course
This is the most beautiful course on the central coast. The greens are in excellent conditions in the fairways match them. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who likes a challenge and the beautiful scenery Nipomo California has to offer.
Fun day at coast
Took a friend that had never played it before, I have played many times, And he had a great time. I was concerned that it could be too difficult for him a 25 handicap but the fairways were so nice and the ball ran out it was vey playable for both of us.
Great Course on the Central Coast
After lamenting the poor conditions at nearby Blacklake Golf Resort, which we had played the day before on 2-day golf getaway from SoCal, we were pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a course. The weather was perfect and we had a great morning of golf. The course was in good condition. The greens ran true. Note: It is a LINKS course, which means blind shots and target golf. You can't see every green from every tee. That noted, it is a fun, but challenging layout. Fortunately, the Starter gave us tips for some of those holes, as it was our first-time playing here. All the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to another round when back on the central coast.

Walked the Golds (6337/70.9/130) with Mike, Doris and Joe in slightly more than 4 1/2H mid morning. Overcast, fairly calm and around 65.
The tees were average. Good coverage, but some could use leveling and many needed some divot attention.

Old Course
Walked the Golds (6337/70.9/130) with RGM2525 in 4H early morning. The front 9 was "hit it and hope" because of the thick fog. Visibility was maybe 50 yards when we started and was up to a hazy 175 yards by the end of the front 9. It ended up being a nice day, fairly calm, around 75 and partly cloudy. However, $69 to walk on a Wednesday morning was sticker shock!
The tees were okay, mostly level with many needing some divot love.
The fairways were good to play from. Semi lush with a good cushion.
The rough was hit and miss. Close to the fairway was not very high, but there is plenty of thick/deep native rough to avoid here.
The sand traps were wet but played okay. I sampled more than my share during the period we were hitting in the "general direction" of the green due to the lack of visibility.
The large poa greens putted medium fast & were firm. Very nice! Very undulating greens even when they appeared to be fairly flat, difficult to read subtle breaks.
It had been almost 8 years since I last played here. They have reversed the 9's. Overall, excellent course and layout. Good customer service from all encountered. Recommended.
Fun track
First time playing this course and had a great time. Afternoons they have a “happy hour” where you can play for 35 with a beer. Course was in fantastic shape. Plenty of challenging holes with a few forced carries over water and challenging tee shots. Will definitely be back for another round
Great Track Good Condition
Layout of this course is very good and challenging especially from back tees and if its windy. A lot of holes where there are blind shots. Conditions were pretty good. Green were a just a little slow and bumpy but overall very decent and definitely worth playing if you are in the area. Would play again for sure
Unique Course
Monarch Dunes is a wonderful course. Its a modified Links style course that can play very tough especially if the wind is up. It epitomizes target golf as there are areas you simply must play to. Toughest hole is hole 10, the approach shot is fraught with peril. I think the best holes are 7 and 18.
Nice place to play golf.
Good greens and well kept fairways. Hills and valleys add to the challenge.
unique course layout
greens were very good, fairways ok,some course construction going on.no cart gps, said new cart fleet didn't have on web site.good food and drink at more than fair price.
fun course
